Analyzing Stem Cells
Stem cells have a ton of advantages for people but some of the main ones are that they help us understand human physiology better. Now, let’s briefly explain what exactly a stem cell is. You can think of it as the “mother cell” to all other cells. The Process Of Taking The Cord Blood
This is a four-step process which consists of us getting the material, transporting it to one of our facilities, processing and checking it, and ultimately storing it.
Before everything even starts you will have to fill out some paperwork during your last trimester. After that you will have to undergo some routine tests which are required by the Australian laws. After everything goes well there, we send you a kit which you will later on use to collect the actual blood (don’t worry, a doctor/nurse will do that for you).
When delivering your child, the doctor will cut the umbilical cord and take it along with the placenta. They both contain roughly 80 millilitres of blood which then has to be extracted and put into the special container we gave you (in the kit).
Transportation, Processing, And Storing
After that is done you call the number on the kit and we send one of our technicians to take it and transport it to the nearest facility. There we will do some additional microbiological tests to make sure everything is good to go. One last thing before moving on will be to remove the red blood cells and plasma from the blood. That makes the stem cells more potent in the future when they’re being used. And now we will proceed to the last part.
After all is done the blood goes into cryo chambers where it is stored in sub-zero temperatures for as long as you want it to. We update our machines almost yearly to keep up with the technological breakthroughs in this area. The better the storing capabilities of our units, the longer stem cells can last and the better their qualities will be preserved.
